Tom Brady Stats - 517 Yards: QB Carries New England Patriots
Although the New England Patriots beat the Miami Dolphins on Monday night, all eyes were on quarterback Tom Brady on Tuesday.
Brady managed to break a Patriots record of throwing 517 yards and four touchdowns, helping his team defeat Miami 38-24. Although Miami’s QB Chad Henne threw the most yards in his career at 416, it was no match for Brady’s efforts.
The New England QB admitted that while Miami did well, it wasn’t good enough.
"They made some plays on us," Brady said, according to the ESPN reports. "We made a few more than them."
However, Brady didn’t take all of the credit for his team’s win on Monday night. After Brady threw a 99-yard pass to Wes Welker, the QB credited the WR with the successful touchdown.
“I only threw it 25 yards. Wes did all the work," Brady said, according to ESPN networks. "When I saw him break away, that was awesome. Coach never lets us run that route in practice."
Welker said he was ready for the opportunity to catch a pass from Brady.
"When I saw the coverage as we lined up, I knew there was a strong possibility I could be getting the ball," Welker said, according to ESPN. "I just wanted to make the most of the opportunity."
However, Brady threw consecutive touchdown passes during the game, causing Miami coach Tony Sparano to say, “Some of their scores ended up looking like it was kind of easy.”
Brady’s performance even caused some of his toughest critics to change their tune.
"I've always been a Tom Brady hater but, man, he really shut me up today,” one person wrote on Twitter. “517 yards? WHAT!?!?"
Will Brinson, CBS Sports and NFL blogger, was one of the majority votes that led to Brady receiving the CBS Eye on Football Award for his offense in the first week of the NFL season.
“Of all the record-breaking performances we saw this weekend, it wasn't close as to which was the most impressive -- Brady disemboweled the Dolphins defense on Monday night and while it's one thing to watch a quarterback rack up yardage by chunking the ball deep, it's an entirely different thing to watch someone conduct their offense the way Brady did Monday,” Brinson said on CBS Sports.
