'Tom Clancy's The Division' Alpha: Screenshots, Gameplay Footage, First Impressions
Ubisoft has ended "Tom Clancy's The Division" alpha, and while it lasted, screenshots and gameplay footage were leaked. The alpha lasted for four days, starting on Wednesday, Dec. 9, to Saturday, Dec. 12.
Despite Ubisoft's non-disclosure agreement, a few of those who participated in the alpha still leaked screenshots and gameplay footage. The NDA prohibited alpha participants from publishing the same.
Based on the screenshots and footage, most in the community agree that the leaked media left an impression that the animation and graphics looked "stunning." Many also praised the shooter mechanics and moving in and out of cover as being fluid and "quite well programmed" and "very promising." Gaming-centric publication Gamepur also praised the game's depiction of New York, saying it looked "pretty big."
The leaked screenshots and video seemed to have assuaged concerns on how the final game was going to be downgraded like what happened to "Watch Dogs" and "Assassin's Creed Unity." The alpha build, however, is not an assurance of what gamers will get when the game finally releases. And although feedback from leaksters regarding the alpha build were mostly positive, Ubisoft had immediately taken down most of the video footage.
Here are two low-quality footage of the Xbox One alpha:
"The Division" is an open-world third-person role-playing game with traditional shooter and survival elements. It is set in a New York that has been crippled by a pandemic. When chaos erupts on Black Friday, the mission of a group of tactical agents begins. They must restore order, take back New York, and ultimately save society.
In the game, players can customize their character, backpack, and lifeline, as well as upgrade their weapons. They will also be equipped with a smartwatch for communication.
"Tom Clancy's The Division" is expected to release on March 8, 2016 for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
