Tom Clancy's 'The Division' Game Officially Rated M for Mature by ESRB
Tom Clancy's "The Division" got an official rating of M for Mature from games classification association Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) partly because of its morbid effects and profanity content.
ESRB is the association responsible for evaluating and classifying video games and entertainment product before their actual release. After reviewing Tom Clancy's "The Division," the association gave the game an M for Mature rating because of its violent nature and extremely realistic effects, according to Gamepur.
The M rating means the game is for mature players above the age of 17. ESRB said the game contains Blood, Intense Violence and Strong Language, Attack of the Fanboy reports.
In a statement, ESRB described Tom Clancy's "The Division" as a third-person shooter game in which players have to perform the duties of a secret government agent and engage in realistic combat. The description also enumerated the different weapons being used to kill their enemies, the report details.
"Combat is highlighted by realistic gunfire, screams of pain, and large splashes of blood," ESRB said of the game. "Several sequences depict corpses, some tied up or hanging from railings, and players must rescue hostages in some levels of the game."
In addition, ESRB described cutscenes in which hostages who are tied up are being shot or stabbed. The association also noted that the dialogue contains profanity, the report relays.
What ESRB is trying to say is that there are instances in which the hostages get killed by terrorists if the player fails to save them. However, the exact mechanics or standards for the rescue are still unconfirmed. Tom Clancy's "The Division" has released an Alpha build that players have been testing on Xbox One. The Beta build, which will be made available for PS4 and PC, will be out early this year, the report adds.
While the game experienced several delays, Tom Clancy's "The Division" will be officially released on Mar. 8. ESRB has warned that the game is not suitable for kids below 17.
