Tom Cruise Birthday, Star Celebrates 50 Without Katie Holmes
Tom Cruise's birthday has arrived Tuesday as reports about his divorce from Katie Holmes continue to swirl. Holmes filed for a divorce from the actor in New York City just days ahead of his 50th birthday.
The star will not be celebrating his milestone birthday with his wife of five years despite their plans to hike in Iceland where he is filming a new movie.
"Iceland is very beautiful," Cruise told People magazine ahead of his birthday and before news the divorce hit. "We like hiking, and so we'll have some nice hikes and maybe go camping."

On Cruise's official Twitter account, the star and his team posted retweets of dozens of fans that had wished Cruise a happy birthday. Messages included tributes and compliments, including a post from Angelina who wrote: "@TomCruise Happy Birthday! It's official, you are 'Hunk-O-Licious!"
"Wishing him a wonderful life ahead and wishing for MI-50," wrote Harish of Cruise's hit "Mission: Impossible" film series.
"Happy B-day wonderful man of my dreams," wrote Silvia. "Always with u since I was a teen. Now I'm 42… Happy b-day Tom!"
Since the divorce filing, the media has swarmed the details surrounding Holmes and Cruise's split. Many reports indicate that Cruise was blindsided by Holmes' legal move.
The couple shares one daughter, Suri, while Cruise shares Isabella and Connor with ex-wife Nicole Kidman. Monday, Holmes was spotted for the first time since the divorce announcement and appeared to have removed her wedding ring for good already.
In a possible attempt to further her career, Holmes reportedly fired her publicist and resigned with BWR Public Relations, according to USMagazine.com.
Holmes' legal action stems in part due Cruise's controlling attitude attributed to the Church of Scientology, according to an insider. The source said the actor forbade Holmes to fill roles that included "sexually compromising scenes, largely because the Scientology folks objected," according to USMagazine. "Katie wants her life back," added the insider of the 33-year-old actress.
