Tom Cruise Clears Up Rumors About Himself
After years of speculation over his marriage, religious beliefs, and career, Tom Cruise has addressed all of the rumors in a recent interview.
In the past, the 49-year-old star has sought lawsuits against certain media outlets over publishing damaging material. Acknowledging the incidents, Cruise candidly answered questions during an interview with Playboy, which will appear in the magazine's June issue.
First, Cruise explained that he "sued over some particularly personal things" that were written about him and his family.
"They know I mean it, that if I have to, I will sue," said the actor. "Does refuting things help? Not really. There comes a point when you just have to go, 'You know what? Here's how I've lived my life: I've never been late to a set. I make films I believe in. I feel privileged to be able to do what I love.' You just have to remember that."
Cruise is often targeted for his belief in Scientology, and he admitted that discussing his religion is difficult in today's media.
"If I don't talk about my religion, if I say I'm not discussing it or different humanitarian things I'm working on, they're like, 'He's avoiding it,'" explained the "Mission: Impossible" star. "If I do talk about it, it become, 'Oh, he's proselytizing.'"
The actor credits Scientology with his successful career during the interview.
"I have respect for what other people believe," Cruise noted. "What I believe in my own life is that it's a search for how I can do things better, whether it's being a better man or a better father or finding ways for myself to improve. Individuals have to decide what is true and real for them. I'm fortunate in the life I have."
Rumored to have gone under the knife, Cruise stated his opposition to cosmetic surgery.
"I haven't and I never would," said the actor.
Further delving into his personal life, Cruise described his wife as "an extraordinary person." He is married to actress Katie Holmes, with whom he shares his 6-year-old daughter Suri.
"Everything she does, she does with this beautiful creativity," gushed the actor of his wife, adding that she is "funny and charming."
"When she walks into the room, I just feel better," said Cruise. The couple will celebrate their sixth wedding anniversary in November. The actor also has two children with ex-wife Nicole Kidman.
The entire question and answer session between Cruise and Playboy will hit newsstands May 18.
Cruise is preparing for the release of his new film, "Rock of Ages," which also sees actors Alec Baldwin, Russell Brand, and Catherine Zeta-Jones, among others. The movie based on the Broadway show opens in theaters June 15.
