Tom Cruise 'Freaking Out' After Losing Control of 'Robot' Katie Holmes, Suri
Tom Cruise was reportedly blindsided when Katie Holmes filed for divorce in New York on June 28, and the actor is said to be "freaking out" over his inability to continue controlling his estranged wife and their daughter Suri.
"He is totally freaking out right now because he no longer had control of Katie, Suri or the divorce," a source told HollywoodLife.com.
Cruise, who was described as being somber on Tuesday which was his 50th birthday, reportedly had no idea that his wife of five years was unhappy and preparing to end their marriage.
Holmes, 33, reportedly grew tired of Cruise's controlling ways, which prompted her to filed for divorce. He allegedly made every major and minor decision in her personal and professional life, according to TMZ.com.
New reports suggest that Cruise often placed bizarre restrictions on Holmes, particularly with regards to her acting career.
The pair began dating in 2005 while Holmes was filming the movie "Thank You for Smoking." Although they were still in early stages of their relationship, Cruise allegedly approached the film's producers and instructed them to "kill" any promotional photos in which Holmes and her co-star Aaron Eckhart engaged in kissing or "anything else compromising."
While some observers perceived Cruise's behavior as red flags, Holmes continued dating the "Rock of Ages" star, but his controlling ways were again exposed while she was promoting the 2005 movie "Batman Begins."
Cruise reportedly prohibited his then girlfriend from traveling with the film's cast members and ensured that she only use his private jet which allegedly "disgusted" one of her co-stars Morgan Freeman.
After the pair was married and Holmes gave birth to Suri, Cruise's attempts to control Holmes only got worse and he even forced her to slightly change her name.
"Tom has always made all the decisions in their relationship and called all the shots and initially Katie found it charming -- don't forget, she was pretty young when they met and compared to Tom she was hardly worldly," a source told Radar Online.
"Tom hated her being called Katie, and wanted her to insist on being called Kate, which she hated. He vetted all her movie roles, made all the decisions about where and when they would vacation, how Suri would be raised, when she spoke to her parents, where they went for dinner, everything!" the source added. "After five years of this Katie really felt like she was going crazy and that she was actually turning into the robot that the press had always made her out to be."
