Tom Cruise Reunited With Suri, 'Sad But Not Bitter' About Katie Holmes Divorce (PHOTO)
Tom Cruise was reunited with his 6-year-old daughter Suri for the first time on Tuesday since his ex-wife Katie Holmes filed for divorce.
The "Rock of Ages" actor picked up Suri from Holmes' New York apartment before taking her to Chelsea Piers for her gymnastics lesson, according to TMZ.com.
He is said to be "sad but not bitter" about Holmes' abrupt divorce filing on June 28, but is simply focused on spending several days with his daughter while he is in New York.
Cruise, 50, will not have any direct contact with Holmes and Suri will be picked up from Holmes before being taken back to her with the help of intermediaries.
Cruise's reunion with Suri comes less than one week after he agreed to pay "more than $10 million" in child support for his and Holmes' only child over a 12-year period.
In addition to the child support, Cruise, who has an estimated $350 million fortune, also agreed to give Holmes sole custody of Suri on the condition that he was given visitation rights as part of the terms of their divorce settlement.
The devout Scientologist has also agreed not to expose Suri to anything relating to the controversial cult. Cruise had reportedly planned for Suri to follow the same Scientology-based upbringing as his adopted children Isabella and Connor, which some critics believe is the real reason that Holmes decided to end the former couple's 5-year marriage.
Holmes, who was raised Catholic, was concerned that Cruise would send Suri off to a radical Scientology organization known as the Sea Organization.
The Sea Org is composed of adults and minors who have committed their lives to the volunteer service of their religion, and various ex-members have blasted the organization and its practices as being unhealthy, according to TMZ.com.
"Katie insisted that Suri's nanny and bodyguards always accompany her when she visits Tom. Katie did this for several reasons. This will ensure a smooth and easy transition for Suri when she is with Tom," a source told Radar Online.
"Suri is Katie's number one priority. Tom only has Scientologists that work for him and Katie insisted that her staff will always be with their daughter. Under terms of the settlement, Suri isn't permitted to be exposed to anything Scientology-related and this includes going to any Scientology churches, parties, etc. Katie made sure that this was ironclad in the agreement," the insider added.
