Tom Cruise Will Do 'Jack Reacher 2'
Hot on the heels of his recent box-office hit "Mission: Impossible 5," Tom Cruise is going to work on a sequel to the 2012 action movie "Jack Reacher."According to reports, Paramount Pictures has given the greenlight to the film recently, with Tom Cruise reprising his role as an ex-military officer who goes around the U.S. and helps people in special and dangerous circumstances.
The studio has reportedly started preparing for production to start on the sequel by November 2015, targeting a late 2016 release in theaters, according to Screen Rant. Cruise has just wrapped up production work for "Mena," a crime-thriller based on a true story about a drug runner and a CIA operative in the 1980s. And while he is waiting for production to start on the next "Mission: Impossible," this other sequel is likely the next film he will work on, according to the report.
Another report in The Guardian also cited that the decision of Paramount to push through with the sequel was a surprise, because the first film did not perform well in the box office. However, the movie did well overseas largely because of Cruise's star power. With Cruise coming off of "MI5", it is no wonder that the studio wants to work on this as quickly as possible.
According to the report, Ed Zwick has already signed up to direct the project, which is temporarily called "Jack Reacher 2." Zwick previously worked with Cruise in "The Last Samurai."
"Jack Reacher 2" was written by Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz based on a draft by Richard Wenk. The story of the movie is based another novel by Lee Child which features the character Jack Reacher titled "Never Go Back." It was published in September 2013 and is Child's 18th Jack Reacher novel.
The 2012 movie was based on the 2005 novel titled "One Shot."
