'Tomb Raider' Reboot Release Date, Plot News: March 2018 Premiere Confirmed; First Trailer Rolls Out
"Tomb Raider" now has its first public clip, half a year after Warner Bros. first released a few teaser images. The 2018 reboot of the iconic character is set to be released on March 16 next year.
This remake of "Tomb Raider" goes back to a young Lara Croft, this time represented by Alicia Vikander. The young, rebellious woman is just 21 in the events followed by the upcoming movie, as she wanders the busy streets of East London as a bike courier, as summed up by the synopsis supplied by Warner Bros. last March.
Despite the vast-reaching business empire left by her father, himself an adventurer with a taste for the strange and exotic, she manages on her own with her delivery gig while trying to attend her college courses.
She absolutely refuses to take over her father's business, choosing instead to believe that he's still alive somewhere even after he disappeared while she was just barely a teen.
Despite her father's last instructions, she sets off to find a clue to his mysterious disappearance. Her path takes her on a journey to search for a mysterious tomb off the coasts of Japan — a mission that's every bit as dangerous as it is exciting for the independent young woman.
The movie cops a few elements from the 2013 "Tomb Raider" debut by Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix, as Den of Geek notes. The grimy, wild look embraced by a younger Lara Croft in the tenth reboot of the video game focuses on the adventurer's perilous origins, a theme that the new "Tomb Raider" movie is going for as well.
Early shots show Alicia Vikander getting the look, and the new clip released by Warner Bros. nails the action scenes reminiscent of "Indiana Jones." Director Roar Uthaug agrees. "As Lara Croft, Alicia Vikander is brilliant. She brings great depth to a complex role that is both physically and emotionally demanding," he said in an earlier press release.
"We hope this film will delight fans around the world and add another intriguing chapter to the Tomb Raider story," Uthaug added.
The video below teases at a full-length trailer coming later for "Tomb Raider." This quarter-minute clip packs in the action scenes ahead of the movie's release to cinemas on March 16, 2018.
