Tony Awards Nominations and Snubs
The 2013 Tony Award nominees have been announced on Tuesday recognizing the best in today's Broadway Theatre.
Also known as the Antoinette Perry Award for Excellence in Theatre, the awards are a joint venture by the American Theatre Wing and The Broadway League that take place annually in New York City.
Leading with 13 nominations this year including Best Musical is "Kinky Boots," written by Cyndi Lauper and Harvey Fierstein.

Next, the critically acclaimed British import "Matilda the Musical" followed with 12 nominations.
Alternately, the most nominated play was the revival of "Golden Boy" which saw eight nods, while "Lucky Guy" by the late Norah Ephron received six.
Furthermore, "Lucky Guy" star Tom Hanks earned a nod for his role in Ephron's last work. The role marked yet another chance for Hanks to portray a character written by the "Sleepless in Seattle" creator.
"Vanya and Sonia Masha and Spike" tied with "Lucky Guy" garnering six nominations, including nods for stars David Hyde Pierce and Kristine Nielsen.
Other productions that saw nominations this year include "Pippin," with 10 nods and a revised version of "Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella" with nine nominations.
This year's Tony Awards also left out much of today's theatre, and among those snubbed were Bette Midler and Alec Baldwin.
While "Orphans" was nominated for Best Revival of a Play, its star Baldwin was not.
In another surprising snub, "The Nance" by Douglas Carter Beane did not receive a nomination for Best Play.
Other television stars that have appeared on Broadway- Al Pacino, Jessica Chastain and Katie Holmes- will also go unrecognized at this year's Tonys.
The Tony Awards will air live on CBS Sunday, June 9 at 8 p.m. EST from Radio City Music Hall. The first Tonys telecast occurred in 1967.
