Tony Bennett Nude Lady Gaga Portrait Auction Nears $10K
A controversial nude portrait of Lady Gaga sketched by music legend Tony Bennett is up for auction on eBay.
Bidding for the 18x24 charcoal painting started at $5,000 on Wednesday, and by Thursday lunchtime had risen to $9,300. The reserve price has not yet been met, and with the auction not scheduled to end until Dec. 19 the value is still expected to continue to rise a lot more.
eBay has written this description about the painting: “Tony Bennett created this charcoal portrait of Lady Gaga using Prismacolor Premier Art vine Charcoal sticks working on Fabriano Artistico heavy weight watercolor paper. The portrait measures 18″ x 24″ and has been signed by the artist, using his given name Benedetto, which is how Tony Bennett signs his original artwork.”
All of the earnings from the Gaga painting will go to Bennett’s charity, “Exploring the Arts,” and Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way Foundation.”
Bennett is also auctioning a limited edition copy of his “Gondola, Venice,” as well as an autographed copy of “Tony Bennett in the Studio: A Life in Art and Music.”
Other exclusive items for fans to bid on in the eBay auction are the Brian Atwood heels and Mercura sunglasses that Lady Gaga wore during a Vanity Fair photo shoot. A poster of the Vanity Fair cover signed by Gaga is also available.
This year Bennett released Duets II, an album composed of duets with some of today’s most popular artists. Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey, Amy Winehouse, John Mayer, Willie Nelson, and Faith Hill are all featured on the album.
Tony Bennett, 85, has won 15 Grammy Awards and two Emmy Awards.
