Tony Danza Returns to Broadway
Emmy Award and four time Golden Globe nominee, Tony Danza has announced his return to Broadway to star in a musical version of the popular movie "Honeymoon in Vegas." Producers of the show, say the former star of "Who's the Boss?" is set to play the role of Las Vegas wise guy, Tommy Korman.
The musical will make its debut in Toronto in November, and arrive on Broadway in spring next year.
It will also feature music and lyrics by Tony Award winner Jason Robert Brown.
The original film released in 1992, and starring Nicolas Cage, James Caan and Sarah Jessica Parker, is based on the humorous situation that unfolds in Las Vegas when a wealthy gambler schemes $65,000 out of a reluctant groom, and says that he will give it back if he can have his fiancée.
Danza who will play Tommy the wealthy gambler, has appeared on Broadway a number of times including his role as Max Bialystock in "The Producers" and reprised his role at the Paris Las Vegas from 2007-2008.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., Danza, was discovered by a producer whilst boxing in New York, and landed a role on the popular and long-running 1980's TV show Taxi.
After a long successful career in acting, he took on what he describes his "most challenging and rewarding role yet- teaching 10th grade English at Philadelphia's Northeast High School." This experience working as a real teacher was recorded and aired in a critically acclaimed series last year on A&E, called TEACH.
