Tony Romo Accepts Responsibility for Dallas Cowboys Loss to New York Jets

Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys quarterback, allowed the New York Jets to come back from a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter to win the teams' season opening game on Sunday night.

With 59 seconds left, the game was tied at 24. Romo attempted to pass the ball to Cowboys' wide receiver, Dez Bryant.

However, Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis intercepted the pass to ruin Dallas’ chances for the win. After Revis’ 20-yard return enabled Jets’ kicker and former Cowboys player, Nick Folk, to make the 50-yard field goal that won the game for the team with green jerseys.

The Jets won the game, 27-24 and Romo took the loss personally. The Cowboys’ QB said he was the reason the team lost on Sunday.

“That was my fault. It’s just disappointing and frustrating right now because we win the football game if I don’t do what I did,” Romo said, according to ESPN reports. “It’s hard to swallow just knowing we lost this game because of me tonight.”

Looking back, the QB said Bryant “was right with what he did,” and admitted that his pass was rushed.

“He kept going on it. It was a dumb decision, too reactionary,” Romo said of his pass, according to ESPN. “I should’ve made sure.”

Although the QB was hard on himself, he commended Revis’ reaction to his attempted pass and Bryant’s efforts

"(Revis) did a good job of staying underneath the route," Romo said, according to Boston Herald reports. "I haven’t looked at the tape, but I’m pretty sure Dez did a good job adjusting to it. I’ve got to do a good job adjusting to him."

Fans took to twitter to express their frustration about Romo’s poor performance.

"Another Cowboy season opener and Tony Romo blows another one," one person tweeted.

Another joked about the Cowboys' QB playing for the other team.

"Jets just added Tony Romo as team captain," the twitter user wrote.

Romo had no qualms about taking responsibility for seemingly helping the opposing Jets.

“This game came down to one or two plays, the plays that I gave them the ball," Romo said, according to The Boston Herald.
