Top 2016 Games: Exclusives and Titles Gamers Can't Wait to Play Next Year

Video game players constitute nearly half of the population of the United States, with 42 percent of Americans playing at least three hours of video games each week, according to the Entertainment Software Association, the United States' video game industry trade association. The number of gamers worldwide is also expected to grow to 2.15 billion, according to research firm Newzoo.

This means more people will be clamoring to have more video games released next year. With the video game industry expected to reap more than $99.2 billion revenue worldwide in 2016, developers and publishers have duly lined up their best sellers for the coming year.

From among the many anticipated titles that are expected to come next year, these games emerged at the top of gamers' lists.

"The Last Guardian"

Many gamers are hoping there won't be anymore delays to "The Last Guardian," which is scheduled to be available for Sony's PlayStation 4 in 2016. "The Last Guardian" comes from game developer Fumito Ueda. It is a puzzle adventure game that will have players journey through ruins and lost cities. The game features a little boy and a curious character that is part eagle, part dog, and part cat.

"Crackdown 3"

Coming to the Xbox One in 2016, "Crackdown 3" is set in a crime-besieged city and players will play an agent who must enforce the law. The game is handled by Dave Jones and is said to feature Microsoft's Azure cloud technology, which translates to players seeing even greater destruction in the game.

"Horizon Zero Dawn"

"Horizon Zero Dawn" is an original role-playing game from Guerilla Games for the PS4. In the game, players control a female hunter who will face mecha-dinosaurs, which have overrun the Earth, using primitive but destructive weapons.

"Mass Effect: Andromeda"

EA and Bioware have not released much detail about the upcoming game "Mass Effect: Andromeda," except for pieces of concept art and a brief trailer. Fans are still pretty much guessing about what the sci-fi RPG has in store for them. Nothing's certain about this game, especially in terms of release date, but it's definitely one of the most-anticipated titles out there.

"No Man's Sky"

"No Man's Sky" from Hello Games is expected to arrive in June 2016 for the PS4 and PC. It's a sci-fi game that features more than 18 quintillion planets for players to explore.

Other games players are eagerly waiting for and hoping will come in 2016 include Nintendo's "The Legend of Zelda," "EVE Valkyrie" for the Oculus Rift, Microsoft's "Gears of War 4," "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" from Naughty Dog, "Dishonored 2," "Deus Ex: Mankind Divided," "Final Fantasy XV," Capcom's "Street Fighter V," "Cuphead," "Overwatch" from Blizzard Entertainment, Bethesda's "Doom," "Battleborn," the JRPG "Persona 5," and "Dark Souls III."
