Space lasers, murder hornets and Sasquatch

Sen. John Kennedy, R-La., who is famous for injecting humor into his interrogations, began his line of questioning by pressing Abbate to say unequivocally that it was a bullet that hit Trump.

"Is there any doubt in your mind or in the collective mind of the FBI that President Trump was shot in the ear by a bullet fired by the assassin Crooks?" Kennedy asked Abbate, who replied, "There is absolutely no doubt."

Kennedy's question came in the wake of FBI Director Christopher Wray casting doubt last week on what drew blood from Trump's ear, telling Congress that "there's some question about whether or not it's a bullet or shrapnel that, you know, hit his ear."

After Wray's comment drew backlash from Trump's physician and others, the FBI released a statement confirming that it was indeed a bullet that struck the former president.

Abbate also denied Kennedy's suggestion that it could have been "a space laser," "a murder hornet" or "Sasquatch."

"Glad we cleared that up," Kennedy added.

Kennedy also tried unsuccessfully to learn from Abbate who signed off on the recent $2 million settlement between the U.S. Department of Justice and former FBI agents Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, whose private 2016 text conversations about having "an insurance policy" to prevent Trump from becoming president were leaked to the media in 2018.
