Top highlights from RFK Jr.'s first confirmation hearing: Spiritual battle, divine purpose, missing children

4. God and spirituality mentioned multiple times
While much of the confirmation hearing featured back-and-forth exchanges between members of the committee and Kennedy, the questioning was preceded by an opening statement from Kennedy. During his remarks, Kennedy detailed how “the first thing I’ve done every morning for the past 20 years is to get on my knees and pray to God that he would put me in a position to end the chronic disease epidemic and help America’s children.”
When discussing the health problems plaguing the American people, Kennedy declared, “This is not just [an] economic issue, it’s not just a national security issue, it is a spiritual issue and it is a moral issue.”
He further maintained, “ We cannot live up to our role as an exemplary nation, as a moral authority around the world, when we’re writing off an entire generation of kids” because of their health problems.
After he concluded his questioning of Kennedy, Sen. Roger Marshall, R-Kan., delivered a message to the nominee: “Mr. Kennedy, I believe for such a time as this, that you’re not just one of 300 million people, I think that you are the person to lead HHS to make America healthy again, that God has a divine purpose for you.”
