Top Gear 2016 Update: Revamped Show to Premiere on May 8

When news first surfaced about Jeremy Clarkson leaving Top Gear, fans were left dumbfounded, but just recently, it was announced that the million-dollar car show will be back in 2016, giving fans some hope for 16 episodes of adventure and fun.

Earlier this year, it was reported that the controversial presenter, who has been with the show for quite some time, was suspended following a "fracas with a BBC producer." The reports said Clarkson punched one of the male producers, allowing for a huge setback, not only for the show but for BBC as well. Clarkson's contract was not renewed after the alleged brawl.

In the weeks that followed, reports emerged about the two other presenters, Richard Hammond and James May, following the path of Clarkson and later signing up for an Amazon Prime show that has started filming. The Amazon motor show featuring the three former Top Gear presenters was reported to have been dished with a whopping $240 million budget.

Meanwhile, BBC has acquired a new presenter, along with the news that Top Gear will be back on May 8 next year. According to The Guardian, Chris Evans, the new presenter, said in an interview with BBC1 on Saturday's Kitchen that producers have "already started making the films," adding that filming wraps up on May 5.

While Evans didn't mention who his co-presenters will be for the revamped show, he said, "We're going to America to make our first inter-continental in January." The new show promises exciting adventures that fans have been waiting for ever since the previous season with Clarkson and his co-presenters was cancelled.

There are not too many details revealed about the new Top Gear, but according to The Verge, Evans previously said that the producers decided to scrap the idea of a three-host system — which could possibly mean that Evans will handle the show on his own, or will have just one presenter to help him out.

Top Gear returns on BBC2 on May 8, 2016.
