'Top Gear' Season 22 News: New Cars, Homemade Ambulances and a Car Crash to Be Featured in Upcoming Season
BBC has yet to confirm season 22 of "Top Gear" as fans eagerly anticipate the return of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, James May, and the Stig, but it looks like social media users have taken it upon themselves to release spoilers for the upcoming season as the cast and crew of the show have been spotted filming new episodes—and testing top of the line cars—all over the world.
"Top Gear" fans were alerted two weeks ago that the three hosts have been seen in Argentina as they filmed another epic road trip that will take them across the country's Route 40, also known as the Patagonian highway. A local paparazzo has snapped photos of the three cars that were used for the mission—a Porsche 928 GT, a Lotus Esprit V8, and a Ford Mustang Mach 1. However, filming in Argentina took a controversial turn when the show provoked anger among the locals, as it was found out that the Porsche carried an "H982 FKL" plate number, which happens to be a reference to the Falkland Wars. The show's cars had to be abandoned by the roadside and the crew escorted to the airport after being pelted with stones.
Aside from Argentina, Top Gear Box reports that Clarkson and Hammond were also spotted along with the camera crew in Venice. The website reports that the two will be driving from Siena to Rome, with Clarkson in an Alfa Romeo 4C, and Hammond in a C7 Stingray.
The "Top Gear" team was also spotted near Shepherd's Bush in London as the hosts drove what appear to be three homemade ambulances. According to the owner of Lydd Car Breakers salvage yard, which reportedly provided 25 vehicles for the segment, "they had been asked to design ambulances, and some of the cars they used are just shells now. It's incredible."
Fans should also be on the lookout for a dramatic—and controversial—car crash in the upcoming season of the show. According to the Daily Mail, "Top Gear" caused a lot of anger when they staged a car crash on the B4437 in Charlbury, Oxfordshire, which is the exact location where a 26-year old woman died in a crash four years ago.
Although no date has been announced for the season 22 premiere of "Top Gear," Clarkson may have revealed the date in a Twitter response to a fan.
Twitter user @WisconsinDVG asked, "@JeremyClarkson When will series 22 premier and how many episodes will it be?"
Clarkson wrote, "January. 13. Probably," which could mean that the show will premiere it's 22nd season in January 2015 with 13 episodes.
