'Torchlight' is Coming to Mobile
"Torchlight," an action role-playing game that is said to be influenced heavily by another popular game in the same genre "Diablo," is entering the world of mobile games this year. "Torchlight Mobile" will be coming to both iOS and Android devices within the year.
The game is being developed by Runic Games, and will be part of the "Torchlight" series of video games. Although the game has no definite release date, the report said that the game will be featured during this week's E3 2015. Initial information about the game is also available on the Torchlight Mobile website.
According to Touch Arcade, "Torchlight" has an actual "Diablo" pedigree because two of its original game developers actually came on board Runic Games and led in the game's development. The report also noted the lack of details on the mobile game, except for it featuring "an innovative new way of using skills." According to the IGN report, online play will be "inbound." It is also not yet known if the game will be free-to-play or not.
The mobile game is being published by Perfect World and Fedeen Games. Perfect World is not known for publishing free-to-play games, while Fedeen Games is.
If the mobile game is anything like its predecessors "Torchlight" and "Torchlight II," gameplay will likely feature "randomly generated dungeons" to be explored by players and different types of monsters to hack and slash. The game may also feature day cycles, weather effects, and customizable characters. There will be four playable character classes with each class having three skill trees for customization. The four classes are Engineer, Outlander, Berserker, and Embermage.
"Torchlight" was originally released for PC in 2009 and later for Mac, Linux and the Xbox 360. "Torchlight II" was released in 2012 on PC and has since sold millions of copies. IGN's review of the game is as follows: "Runic Games delivers pure, perfectly paced loot-driven euphoria."
