'Toyota Prius 2016' images leaked.
One look at the leaked images of the "Toyota Prius 2016" and we know the fourth-generation Prius is inspired by Toyota's Mirai fuel-cell car. People will be able to see the "Toyota Prius 2016" at Germany's global auto fair once it has been formally introduced to the public.
The Prius 2016 looks as if it has come a long way from the Prius of the late 1990s. Gone are the chunky and the uninspiring exterior. In its place is a smart, new age designed coupe.
It seems to be saying, its cool to reduce your carbon footprint and save the planet. Toyota's designers seem to have taken up Akio Toyoda's public challenge to make cars enjoyable and cool to own and drive. (Akio Toyoda is Toyota's CEO)
A look at its architecture: The next-generation Prius is built on a new modular platform, the TNGA, namely Toyota's New Global Architecture. It aims to make the Prius lighter yet solid and will give additional safety and better fuel economy. The engine can be placed lower and the ride could be smoother. Toyota is virtually promising a 10% improvement on its fuel economy.
Also, the cost of manufacturing cars on TNGA platform is about 40% lower than the 2008 platform.
But there will be cause for disappointment within Toyota if the Prius 2016 does not sell. There could be two reasons for this. With lower energy prices, a fuel-efficient car will not matter to the buyers. With the economy recovering and growing, buyers prefer larger cars, especially SUVs and Crossovers.
Hyundai is also planning to move into this segment and plans to unveil more "Green Cars", but it still favours the "Electric Hybrid". It has decided to bring out an "All Electric" car to match the Prius 2016. According to reports, it is a sleek aerodynamic, high-tailed hatchback.
The "Toyota Prius 2016" with its spiffy looks may still bowl the public over. We should hold our judgement till the reports of the test drives are out. Toyota will roll out both Prius C (compact) and Prius V (wagon) models in the near future.
