Trace Adkins Checks into Rehab After 12 Years Sober

Trace Adkins has entered a rehab facility for alcohol abuse after reportedly falling off the wagon 12 years after his last drink. The country singer and actor was taking part in the Country Cruising cruise when he began drinking and entered the facility soon after.

"Trace has entered a treatment facility after a setback in his battle with alcoholism. As he faces these issues head-on, we ask that his family's privacy will be respected," a spokesman told Country Weekly.

Adkins has a long history of having the odds stacked against him. He was shot by an ex-wife in 1994, his home burned down in 2011, and his band was involved in an accident that cost two men their lives. The crash took place in 2010, when two men in a pickup truck crossed the "no passing" line and hit Adkins' tour bus.

The country star has never been shy about speaking of his alcohol addiction and in 2003 completed a 28-day program in Nashville. He voluntarily entered the facility to get help dealing with his addiction and came out stronger and feeling "the best" he'd felt in years, "both physically and mentally."

"The program was an extremely positive experience for me," he said after completing the program. "This is something I needed to do for myself, my family, and my career. I'm focused and ready for the new year and the challenges that lie ahead."

Adkins has always been a charitable entertainer willing to give back to communities and organizations that he believes in. In 2008 he competed on "The Celebrity Apprentice" on behalf of the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network. His daughter suffers from life-threatening reactions to peanuts, milk, and eggs. Adkins wanted to support the network and help raise awareness about the gravity of food allergies.

Unfortunately he lost that season but returned for a special All-Stars version, which he won. During the series he managed to win over $670,000 for The American Red Cross. Adkins has also been part of several events that honor the U.S. military and has been an adamant supporter of the troops.

He is the father of five daughters and is currently married to Rhonda Forlaw.
