Travis Alexander 'Extremely Afraid' of Jodi Arias, Expert Confirms (VIDEO)
Travis Alexander was "extremely fearful" of Jodi Arias, prosecutor Juan Martinez alleged yesterday in court. Over recent days he has been battling with domestic violence expert Alyce LaViolette and got her to admit that Alexander was afraid of Arias' behavior.
"Isn't it true that Mr. Alexander was extremely afraid of the defendant, Jodi Arias, based on her stalking behavior?" Martinez asked.
"He was afraid of her, yes," LaViolette responded.
"Because of her stalking behavior, correct?" Martinez questioned.
"Correct," LaViolette said.
It was a seeming win for the prosecution, which has attempted to show that Arias was not a victim of domestic violence but purposely planned the death of Alexander, whom she shot, stabbed 27 times, and slit his throat. She faces the death penalty if found guilty of first-degree murder.
Martinez has often been accused of being too aggressive with the defense's witnesses, as well as Arias herself. Yet Arias' defenders have been equally aggressive with their cross-examinations, and yesterday LaViolette lashed out at Martinez for his tone and behavior.
"If you were in my group, I would ask you to take a time out, Mr. Martinez," the counselor said while on the stand.
One of the major issues Martinez has had with LaViolette is that she did not question anyone else about Arias' claims of self-defense. She spent 44 hours with Arias while she was behind bars, Martinez said, but did not bother to speak with anyone else about Arias' claims or behavior.
"You didn't talk to any of the other witnesses, right?" Martinez asked.
"No, I did not," LaViolette responded.
"Don't you think his [Arias' father] of her truthfulness has a much better basis than yours?" Martinez asked after pointing out that Arias' own father called her a liar during the police interrogation interviews.
"He has a much longer history with her," LaViolette replied.
Arias' trial is expected to continue today, April 11, with defense attorney Jennifer Willmott redirecting LaViolette's testimony.
