After years of discussion, two colleges completed their agreement to partner in providing adult studies education.

Trinity Christian College, a four-year liberal arts college in Palos Heights, Ill., formed a partnership with College of DuPage, a community college located in Glen Ellyn, Ill., allowing adult students from College of DuPage to complete their studies through Trinity’s Adult Studies Education program.

On Sept. 22, the presidents of Trinity and College of DuPage, Dr. Steven Timmermans and Dr. Sunil Chand, signed a cooperative agreement sealing their partnership.

As part of the agreement, Trinity will offer its Accelerated Teaching Certification program at the College of DuPage Addison campus. The program, which was launched at Trinity five years ago, allows students to complete their bachelor’s degree in education and acquire teaching certificates in 15 months of courses and one semester of student teaching. Because the courses only meet one night per week, adults can complete the program while still maintaining their full-time jobs.

Dr. Timmermans commented, “As a society, we need to model how to collaborate. I’m delighted to have Trinity work together with College of DuPage in this particular kind of partnership.”
