Trinity Christian College, a four-year Christian liberal arts college in Illinois, offers rigorous programs of study focused on academic excellence. The social work program was recently granted initial accreditation, after five years of candidacy, by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
The department’s new status begins in the current school year, and will last through October 2009. For those who graduated from the program in 2004 and 2005, the accreditation status will also apply to their degrees.

“It is so wonderful to be able to offer an accredited bachelor of social work program to our students,” said the department’s chairperson, Mackenzi Huyser.
“The time, energy, and teamwork exhibited by the faculty, staff, and students in the department, as well as the incredible support given by the College, our colleagues, and community partners, has made this process exciting and given us great reason to celebrate.”
Under the new accreditation, Trinity students graduating with a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree can apply for advanced standing when they apply for graduate programs. Those enrolled in master’s programs may also complete their degrees in one year instead of two. The department’s new status also fulfills a requirement for those who wish to be licensed.
The accreditation recognizes the department’s work, and is granted based on a multi-step review process, including program self-studies, site visits, and reviews by CSWE’s Commission on Accreditation.
“I think it is a commitment displayed by the College that we have high standards of achievement with the expectations we have for our BSW graduates,” said Huyser.
“It shows that we recognize the level of professionalism which needs to be displayed in the field of social work and we commit ourselves to graduating students with that degree of excellence.”
