Criminal history and mental health
The FBI said in a Sunday statement that the shooter wasn't known to the agency prior to the assassination attempt.
The agency also said that the firearm used in the shooting was purchased legally and it's still investigating a potential motive behind the gunman’s actions.
Law enforcement officials told The Associated Press that they believe the weapon was purchased by Crooks' father at least six months ago. Investigators don't know if Crooks took the weapon without his father's permission.
In a Sunday Wall Street Journal report, FBI special agent Kevin Rojek said the agency hasn't uncovered any writing or social media posts from Crooks that contain any threatening language. The FBI special agent also stated that, so far, there is no indication that the shooter suffered from mental health issues.
