Trump's Georgia indictment: 5 things to know
Trump is back on X
For the first time in two-and-a-half years, Trump posted on his account on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. The post shows a mug shot of the former president taken when he surrendered to authorities Thursday evening.

Additionally, the post describes the criminal charges in Georgia as an example of “election interference” and contains the phrase “never surrender!” It also has a link to his campaign website.
Trump was kicked off the platform following the events of Jan. 6, 2021, when a mob stormed the United States Capitol as Congress was attempting to certify the results of the 2020 presidential election.
The events of Jan. 6 led to an ultimately unsuccessful attempt led by Democrats to impeach the former president for allegedly inciting the riot. Democrat lawmakers contend that his comments at a “Stop the Steal” rally on the National Mall held prior to the riot at the Capitol telling his supporters that the election was stolen and urging them to “peacefully and patriotically” march to the U.S. Capitol led to the violence.
After taking over Twitter last year, billionaire Elon Musk reinstated Trump’s Twitter account but the former president did not post on the platform until Thursday. As of Friday afternoon, the post has been viewed about 190 million times.
