A biopic chronicling the life of rapper and actor Tupac Shakur should being filming in 2014.

Producers and financiers of the movie from Morgan Creek and Emmet/Furla/Oasis Films help a reception in Santa Monica last week to announce the news, according to a report from Billboard.com.

Randall Emmett is involved in the new biopic and his production credits include 'End of Watch' and 2 Guns.

Production of the film has been held off since 2011 due to an intense legal battle between Tupac's mother Afeni Shakur, and Morgan Creek. The company sued Shakur claiming that she signed over the rights to her son's life story and tried to negotiate for creative control of the project after the fact. The two parties ended up settling out of court and Afeni became an executive producer of the project.

Billboard's story did not reveal any actors who would be starring in the film and on its IMDB page none are listed at this time.

Back in Sept, the studio confirmed in a press release that the producers of the film would be James G. Robinson, David Robinson, LT Hutton, Randall Emmett and George Furtla. Filming will begin in Atlanta and the story will focus on the life of the slain rapper.

Tupac Shakur is regarded as one of the most influential artists in music history. His impact on the hip-hop community is worldwide and to this day he remains one of the highest selling acts of all time. Several successful posthumous releases helped to solidify his position.

Several rappers including Lecrae, Eminem, Jay-Z and Nas have cited Tupac as an influence in their career and admired him for his brutal honestly and boldness to speak his mind. Shakur was also close friends with the Notorious B.I.G. however, the two eventually engaged in a feud that could have been the cause of both of their deaths.
