Twitter Adds 'Happening Now' Feed for Sports News
Twitter has just launched a new feature they call "Happening Now," a new feed that aims to highlight posts about topics like sports, entertainment, and breaking news. The new feature was released with a focus on the latest sports news, with more coming.
It's the social media platform's latest shot at helping users discover popular Twitter posts that are relevant to their interests. For now, the company is sticking to ongoing sports events, as Tech Crunch notes.
Users on Android or iOS will now find a new option on the home tab of the Twitter app which lets them see a carousel at the top of the usual feed. This array showcases the current ongoing games in the top sports leagues like the MLB, NBA and NFL, and tapping one of the entries on display will show a list of tweets relevant to that match.

This new feature is called "Happening Now," and it showcases Twitter's new algorithm that picks up relevant and popular tweets about a topic. The new functionality has been available since Tuesday, Oct. 10 for both iOS and Android versions of the app in the U.S., according to The Verge.
"Feel the roar of the crowd, no matter where you are," Twitter said in their announcement just a couple of days ago. "We're rolling out a new way to see what's happening now, starting with sports in [the U.S.]! Available on Android and iOS starting today," the post continued, before adding a link to their feature overview.
Twitter plans to eventually branch out their "Happening Now" feeds to cover entertainment and breaking news, as well. Although Twitter's Moments feature also cover timely topics like these, the new "Happening Now" feature is an algorithm-based selection as opposed to the curated approach used in Moments.
The video below shows the new feature in action, with news of a rollout outside the U.S.expected in the coming weeks.
