Twitter, eBay, Instagram make ‘Dirty Dozen List’ of businesses profiting off sexual exploitation
Reddit, a popular website for posting about various topics, made the list this year for being what NCOSE described as “a hub of image-based sexual abuse, hardcore pornography, prostitution — which very likely includes sex trafficking — and overt cases of child sexual exploitation and child sexual abuse material.”
NCOSE went on to note that while Reddit has been championing a new policy against sharing explicit material, like revenge porn and better efforts to remove reported content, “these policies on paper are not translating into proactive prevention or removal of abuse in practice.”
NCOSE called for Reddit to implement more “robust age and consent verification measures,” create a “mandatory email verification” policy, prohibit minors from accessing the site and ban “external links to pornography and sexually explicit media.”
Reddit previously made the Dirty Dozen List in 2021, with NCOSE saying at the time that the website “has become a hub of exploitation where sex buyers and other sexual predators meet to exchange non-consensually shared intimate images, hardcore pornography, and to give advice to each other about how to use and abuse.”
