Tweet Longer in Twitter by Sep. 19

Twitter users will be able to have longer tweets by September 19.

Twitter is a popular microblogging site that allows its users to publish "tweets" that are limited to 140 characters. Starting Sep. 19, the social media platform will introduce new changes that will allow users to be able to tweet longer.

Longer Twitter Tweets by Sep. 19?
The Verge first reported that Twitter will be rolling out new changes on their platform beginning September 19. However, instead of increasing the 140-character length, they will instead omit certain types of content from the word count.

This means that media attachments like photos, videos, GIFs and others will no longer be counted in the 140-character limit in Twitter. This will also include quoted tweets as well. The outlet did not cite a known source, but they say that their speculated date comes from two anonymous sources that are associated with Twitter.

New Changes in Twitter
Aside from omitting media attachments in the 140-character count, Twitter will also be implementing changes as well. Twitter users will no longer use the "@" convention to tweet to someone, they can be tagged using their usernames and followers will be able to see the interaction on their feeds.

According to the company's official blog, the Twitter username of the one being replied to in a tweet will no longer be included in the character count as well. Furthermore, Twitter users will be able to Retweet and Quote their own tweets.

The blog which was published earlier in May did not state what date they will be rolling out the changes. Twitter did say that their developers will need time to make the changes in the whole Twitter platform and that it may take a few months for it to happen. Furthermore, Twitter stated that they are looking for new ways to make the platform enjoyable for its users.
