A new initiative by the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. will form a network for people involved in mission and congregational partnership in Russia.
The PC(USA)s Worldwide Ministries Division (WMD) established its 23rd mission network during gathering at the Peachtree Presbyterian Church on Oct. 19-23. The Russia network partnered some 45 PC(USA) congregations with 45 Russian congregations, according to PC News. These twinned congregations participate in joint mission programs and try to establish long-term relationships.
According to statistics, a majority of Russias population is Christian, but only about two percent practice the Christian faith.
A unique feature of the international partnership initiative is that it will link the Presbyterian congregations in the Untied States directly with the active churches in Russia. Most PC(USA) partnerships are formed at the presbytery or district level, but an exception was made since none of the historic Christian groups in Russia Orthodox, Baptist and Lutheran has fully developed district ministries.
