U2 Photobombed by Benedict Cumberbatch on Oscars 2014 Red Carpet (PHOTO)
U2 was photobombed by Benedict Cumberbatch on the 2014 Academy Awards red carpet Sunday. The "Sherlock" star waited until the Irish band members and their wives were taking a group photo and jumped up behind them.
The U2 photobomb was made even funnier by the fact that the band was attempting to take a rather serious picture. Cumberbatch waited until the right moment and during the camera flash, jumped up behind frontman Bono.
Cumberbatch's photo was a huge hit at the Academy Awards and was retweeted and shared over 3,500 times by various users. The "Star Trek: Into Darkness" actor also spurned a series of name-related puns throughout the Internet.
"Benepic Photosnatch," wrote Kimberly B. Stone on the ABC News blog. "I made that up. I'm really quite proud of it."
"Loved the Cumberbomb photobatching!" another commented on the Huffington Post.
"I'm sure U2 and their Mrs. U2s saw this photo and had a huge Cumberlaugh," Shannon N. added.
There were other photobombs at the 2014 Academy Awards too. Kevin Spacey and Ireland Baldwin's photo had a yelling Jared Leto in the background, Jennifer Lawrence randomly popped up behind two folks taking a selfie, and Jessica Biel had a leaping Anne Hathaway photobombing her picture.
Perhaps the most famous photo of the night was Bradley Cooper's picture with a variety of Oscar nominees and past winners: Jennifer Lawrence, the night's host Ellen Degeneres, Brad Pitt, Kevin Spacey, Lupita Nyong'o, Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep all joined together for a picture that was retweeted over 2 million times, crashing Twitter. Nyong'o's brother, Peter, managed to sneak in the picture even though he isn't a nominee, though no one seemed to mind.
Cumberbatch wasn't just responsible for jumping into U2's photo on the red carpet at the Academy Awards: he presented an award alongside Jennifer Garner and acted in five major films such as the Oscar-winning "12 Years A Slave," "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" and the much-lauded "August: Osage County."
U2 attended the awards show to perform the Oscar-nominated song "Ordinary Love" from the Nelson Mandela biopic "Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom."
