Germans Favored But Slovaks are Tough Competitors

The Germans are aware of the threat that Slovakia brings to a match, and the former will be tested in the knockout round of the UEFA Euro 2016 on Sunday night.

Slovakia Beat Germany Last May

Even though Germany is the favored team to win in the matchup, UEFA.com indicated that Slovakia beat them in a 3-1 victory during a friendly game last May in Augsburg. Germany team coach Joachim Löw said they now have an idea on what Slovakia can do during a game. "We're aware they have great quality," Löw added.

For Sunday's game, the German coach said they will not waste any chance to bring home the win since the Slovaks plans to capitalize on the weakness of their opponents.

Low added that the team is also well aware that Slovakia is stronger now compared to their performance a few months back. He added that one of their strengths is their great defensive play.

Jérôme Boateng Will Play

German defender Jérôme Boateng is also expected to play for his team's next game despite calf issues. Low said he's already part of the training and that Germany do not expect any problems with his condition.

On the other hand, Slovakia's midfielder Vladimir Weiss is positive that they can repeat their win versus Germany on Sunday. He said that the match could be "demanding" but claimed that their previous win gave them the confidence to face the Germans again.

"We very much believe in ourselves, and as I said, the team spirit is great, we will bring everything we have to this match," he added. The Slovak player noted that the unity of his team will make a difference in this knockout match.

Slovak's Strong Lineup

Slovakia will field some of its best players including Marek Hamsik, Juraj Kucka and Michael Duris. Even German goalkeeper Manuel Neuer recognizes the skills and talents of their opponents, most especially Hamsik, who can make goals even from afar. Neuer said they need to keep a close eye on Hamsik, as well as other Slovak players on the field.

How Can I Watch?

Sunday's game will happen at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy in Lille, France. Kickoff begins at 6 p.m. Tickets are sold for $100 to $500 each. ITV will also broadcast the match with live streaming available through this link.
