UFC Fight News 2016: Ex-Heavyweight Champ Frank Mir Says Possible Suspension Could Likely End His Career

Former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir is in hot water right now, after a possible failed drug test.

Late last week, the UFC released an official statement, saying that the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) may have found a "potential violation", following his post-fight drug test for his March 20th fight against Mark Hunt in Brisbane.

The 36-year old Mir lost the fight via first round knockout.

In a report by Lewis McKeever for Bloody Elbow, Mir will be experiencing a failed drug test for the first time in his 15-year professional mixed martial arts career. And in a statement he personally released through social media, Mir vehemently denied the allegations.

"I have never tested positive for a banned substance since joining the UFC and becoming a 2x champion. I ask all of you to hold judgement against me until all the facts have been revealed," an excerpt of Mir's Facebook post reads.

In his appearance during the Phone Booth Fighting podcast, Mir also reiterated his innocence, claiming that the failed drug test may have been a result of his consumption of some kangaroo meat while he was in Australia during the fight.

Mir argued that the presence of anabolic steroid Turinabol on livestock might have been the reason for him rendering a positive result in his post-fight drug test.

At his age, a fighter like Frank Mir only has a few years left in him before he calls it quits, for his own well-being. And with the strict policies of the UFC and USADA, he may be slapped with a two-year suspension.

In a report by Marc Raimondi for MMA Fighting, Mir says his career is likely over if he does get slapped with a two-year ban.

"That was probably my last time fighting," Mir said, referring to his previous fight against Hunt. "I don't see any other way around it."

"Age is catching up to me now. I'm not gonna get any younger in the next two years."
