UFC fight news: Tony Ferguson out of FOX UFC Fight Night

UFC fighter Tony Ferguson was supposed to fight in the main event of a card in Tampa against Khabib Nurmagomedov; but barely a week before the April 16 match, the American lightweight contender announced his withdrawal after reportedly suffering a health scare.

It still is not clear what happens to Nurmangomedov since he no longer has an opponent and finding someone to fill in for Ferguson is no longer feasible because the fight is just a week away. So it's safe to say that he too is out of the card. According to FOX Sports, the light heavyweight fight between Rashad Evans and Glover Teixeira will instead become the event at the card dubbed as "FOX UFC Fight Night in Tampa."

After the news of his injury came out, Ferguson followed it up by saying that doctors found him to have blood and fluid in his lungs and that the promotion forced him to withdraw since the possibility of trauma can cause him his life. The injury is a huge stumbling block for Ferguson, who currently is on a winning streak, having won his last seven fights in the Octagon. Nurmagomedov for his part is unbeaten as a professional mixed martial artist.

Meanwhile, the Evans-Texeira matchup was slated to be the co-main event on the card as both fighters want to go up in the top of the ranks of the light heavyweight division. This fight will be a shot at redemption for Evans, who in his previous outing was defeated by Ryan Bader. Teixeira comes in as a slight favorite since he's enjoying a two-fight winning streak of his own.

Aside from the Evans-Teixeira fight, FOX UFC Fight Night will also showcase a matchup between Dan Henderson and Lyoto Machida and Rose Namajunas squaring off against Tecia Torres, both of which are highly ranked strawweights in the women's division of the UFC.
