UFC Mir vs Hunt Results: Hunt Makes Statement with Walk-Off KO
Hunt climbed up the rankings after a devastating win over Mir.
It was one of the best UFC Fight Nights in recent memory as the event was filled with excitement to obviously give every fan in Australia every reason to celebrate.
However, the biggest celebration of all was definitely for their hero Mark Hunt as he capped off the night with a stunning victory with his trademark walk-off knockout.
Before that main event, there were other great battles in the night, one was Steve Bosse going up against James Te Huna.
It was a fight between two sluggers who immediately looked to finish the fight with a win. Bosse showed that he wanted to stay in the pocket against Te Huna and it worked out only less than a minute into the first round.
Te Huna tried to counter a punch from Bosse but did not see a right cross by the Canadian that connected right on the button.
The punch sent Te Huna to the canvas and gave Bosse the win in 0:52 of round one.
Another intriguing night was the co-main event which placed Neil Magny against Hector Lombard in a battle between two fighters looking to climb the ladder in the 170-pound division.
It was a back-and-forth fight with Lombard getting the better of the first round as he immediately floors Magny with an uppercut.
The judoka unloaded on his dazed opponent but could not finish Magny who tried his best to cover up and recorver.
It was a dominating round for Lombard who was looking really good early in the fight.
However, when the match reached the second round, Magny appeared to have gotten his legs under him and methodically attacked Lombard.
At this point, Lombard looked out of gas after the flurry in the first round and Magny picked up the pace to take over.
In the closing stages of the second, Magny managed to take a full mount and rained a barrage of strikes on Lombard – only for him to be saved by the bell.
When the third round came, Magny continued his striking as he again stings Lombard before taking him with a double-leg at the fence.
Magny tried a mounted triangle to finish off Lombard, but the scramble results in Magny taking Lombard's back before finishing him with punches in 46 seconds of the third round.
In the main event, it only needed three minutes for Hunt to finish off Frank Mir with his trademark walk-off knockout.
It was a slow exchange early in the round as both men were looking for the range, sparingly exchanging blows and kicks.
Mir looked to constantly change levels and it became predictable as Hunt timed one of his punches when Mir had his head low.
The right hand of the "Super Samoan" hits Mir behind the neck which immediately sends him to the canvas and dazed as Hunt walks off and takes the win and climbs the rankings in the heavyweight ladder.
