UFC News 2015: Werdum-Velasquez Rematch Planned For UFC 196 In February, Urijah Faber Wants To Fight Ex-Teammate T.J Dillashaw
The heavyweight title rematch between champion Fabricio Werdum and former champion Cain Velasquez is being planned for UFC 196 in February.
Meanwhile, Team Alpha Male head coach Urijah Faber is looking to fight former teammate and protégé and current bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw.
Werdum and Velasquez last fought each other at UFC 188 in June, in the latter's home native country of Mexico. Unfortunately for Velasquez, he was not able to wow his hometown crowd, as Werdum, who was in the country weeks prior to have himself acclimated, finished the fight via a third round guillotine choke finish.
This week, UFC President announced that the rematch between the two heavyweight fighters will be at UFC 196 on February 6th in Las Vegas.
"It hasn't been announced yet, but the fight is actually gonna be Feb. 6 in Las Vegas. My PR guy is gonna be bummed out right now," said White, who is currently in Las Vegas for the fight week festivities leading up to UFC 194 later tonight.
Meanwhile, Urijah Faber is still adamant in fighting former training partner and friend T.J. Dillashaw. Both men have not been in good terms since Dillashaw left Team Alpha Male in October to train fulltime with striking coach Duane "Bang" Ludwig in Colorado.
Dillashaw's decision never sat well for Faber who, in recent interviews, says he is now open to the idea of a fight between the two of them. Faber, who will be fighting in the UFC 194 card against Frankie Saenz, had this to say about the reigning UFC bantamweight champion in an interview with MMA Fighting.
"Everyone is on the whole T.J. train," Faber said in the interview about people who are anticipating for a fight between them. "Everybody wants to see that fight. It's like Rocky IV and Rocky V combined."
And when Ariel Helwani, the interviewer, asked if Faber would be willing to oblige, "The California Kid" gave a simple response.
"Yes, of course. So that's the one. That's the one."
UFC 194 will be headlined by a featherweight unification title fight between José Aldo and Conor McGregor.
