UMC: Beauty in Diversity
The United Methodist Church is well known for its considerable racial and ethnic diversity. Not surprisingly, over 100 international delegates were represented at the quadrennial General Conference in Pittsburg this week. Statistics show that some 8.3 million United Methodists reside in the U.S, while about 1.5 million live elsewhere, particularly in the Philippines and Africa. Church demographics also reveal that while the majority of the adherents are of european descent, there is a particularly large Korean-Amerian and African-American population in the denomination.
