Underoath Releases 'The Beginning'- Out of Print Albums 'Act of Depression' and 'Cries From the Past'

Disbanded Christian metalcore band Underoath recently reissued their rare first two albums, Act of Depression and Cries of the Past in a package called The Beginning.

The albums, released in 1999 and 2000 on Takehold records, were drastically different in sound and had many different members than the core most people know today.

While Underoath's music is known for being heavy, their first two albums where even moreso, touching on death and black metal elements. There were no clean singing vocals, but a few spoken lines mixed throughout by former vocalist Dallas Taylor. Current Almost singer, and former drummer and clean vocalist of Underoath, Aaron Gillespie, did not come into his own as a singer yet.

These two records have been out of print for years, but are an important foundation for the Ocala, Fla. band.

Act of Depression and Cries of the Past are available on iTunes and in any place that carries music.

After those two albums they were signed to Tooth&Nail/Solid State Records where they released The Changing of Times. Their Christian record label debut helped start them off on their way in 2003.

Once the band began working on their fourth album, They're Only Chasing Safety, vocalist Taylor left and Spencer Chamberlain joined. Gillespie then became a lead vocalist as well while playing the drums. It was this album that made Underoath one of the most popular heavy Christian bands of all time as their music infiltrated into mainstream success as well.

They have sold over 1.3 million albums with two RIAA-Certified Gold albums. The band became known for those Gold albums, 2004's They're Only Chasing Safety and 2006's Define The Great Line.

These albums became integral to what metalcore/screamo music is today with many bands soon adopting the singing and screaming balance of two vocalists.

Underoath disbanded in early 2013 with their last show being played on Jan. 26, and released a career spanning album called Anthology on Nov. 6 2012.
