Unlimited Data Plans News: AT&T Offers New Cheap Option for 4 Lines to Compete With T-Mobile & Verizon

AT&T gets ahead of the unlimited data plans battle against T-Mobile and Verizon as the downtown Dallas-based telecommunications company introduced the cheapest option.

AT&T just launched the AT&T Unlimited Choice plan that starts at $60 per month inclusive of unlimited data, call, and text services for a single line smartphone. The offer can be beefed up to four lines with the same unlimited features for $155 which means an $85 save. The plan promises a maximum speed of 3 MB per second.

Subscribers of the Unlimited Choice will get a standard definition quality of video streaming with a maximum speed of 1.5 MB per second. According to AT&T, the SD quality is at 480 pixels resolution. The downside of the Unlimited Choice plan is the lack of option to use their device as mobile hotspot.

On the other hand, AT&T offers a higher-end data plan at a slightly bigger price called the Unlimited Plus. For $90 per month, subscribers can get the same unlimited data, call, and text services plus video streaming at high definition quality. The offer also include a 10 GB allowance to use the subscribed device as a mobile hotspot.

Both Unlimited Choice and Unlimited Plus will experience data speed slowdown upon reaching 22 GB of usage.

For comparison, T-Mobile offers the T-Mobile ONE unlimited data plan that costs $160 for four lines. The selling point of T-Mobile's offer is it gives the customers the option to refund the amount corresponding to their unused data per month through the company's KickBack rebate program. For each line that uses less than 2GB per month they will receive $10 back. In addition, T-Mobile's price includes all taxes and fees, which means the $160 is the clear and final price users will pay for the four lines, where as all other major networks will add taxes and fees on top of their advertised prices, which can add quite a chunk more to the actual monthly bill.

More recently, Verizon introduced their newest unlimited data plan that essentially costs $45 per month plus taxes and fees. It is important to note that the $45 rate is applicable for a four-line subscription only. Meaning, the total cost would be $180. And a single line subscription of Verizon's unlimited plan costs $80 per month, with taxes and fees on top.
