Uruguay vs Italy takes place in the Confederations Cup 2013 third and fourth place playoff game on Sunday, with both teams obviously disappointed with being unable to make the showpiece final. Uruguay pushed Brazil and caused them all sorts of trouble in their semi-final. However, ultimately it was the host nation that progressed to the final, and Uruguay were left to rue their missed opportunities.

Italy meanwhile gave as good as they got against fellow European giants Spain, and some even thought that Italy deserved the win more than their counterparts. However, with the game going all the way to the lottery of penalties the game was anyone's. At the conclusion of one of the best technical displays of penalty shooting Spain finally won through to the final in sudden death.

Both teams will be bitterly disappointed but will be hoping to lift themselves for one last game to end the tournament on a high. Both teams have also been hugely entertaining in the tournament to date so fans can expect a good, open and exciting game.

In team news, Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez will have veteran defender Andres Scotti available again after a one-match ban. It is also unsure what Tabarez will decide up front and whether he will keep Edinson Cavani, Luis Suarez and Diego Forlan together for another match.

Meanwhile, Italy coach Cesare Prandelli could be without Alberto Gilardino who picked up a knock against Spain. That could mean Stephan El Shaarawy will get a start.

These two teams have played in FIFA recognized matches a total of eight times in the past 85 years, and Uruguay surprisingly come out on top. They have beaten Italy three times compares to Italy's two, with three draws shared between the pair.

These two teams also interestingly won the first four World Cups (Uruguay 1930 and 1950, Italy 1934 and 1938).
