US Open 2016 Updates: Novak Djokovic vs. Gael Monfils in US Open 2016 Semifinals–Match Preview, TV Info and Live Streaming [DETAILS]
Djokovic will meet erratic Monfils in semifinal game; spectators expect a great game wiith the two players fresh from two days of rest.
World No. 1 Novak Djokovic will play against Gael Monfils in the semifinals of the US Open 2016. Monfils has never won a match against Djokovic. However, it looks like he had a lot of time to rest since he has not lost any sets this US Open. The two also came from a two-day rest, enough to give the audience at the Arthur Ashe Stadium a spectacular play.
Djokovic has won all 12 of his ATP encounters with Monfils with the most recent at Toronto last month with a 6-3, 6-2 match. The two are no strangers to tiring matches. They played in a five-setter match 11 years ago, which was, according to reports, an introduction of what their careers have become today.
Monfils looking for his first win?
Critics also say that this could be the time for Monfils to take action and to finally win over Djokovic. Monfils is currently at the top of his game and Djokovic has not fully recovered from his wrist and arm injuries. The Serbian hurt his left wrist and right arm before the tournament. These injuries have led to a lacking performance from Djokovic, fans say. There are also reports that say that Djokovic has not played like the way he used to.
Great luck for Djokovic
The Serbian tennis star may have prayed so hard to help him breeze through the event. Three retirements took him to the road to the semifinals. He even joked about the situation, saying that he wishes all his opponents speedy recoveries for their injuries. He even said that he was also surprised as to how lucky he was as his opponents Jiri Vesely, Kyle Edmund, and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga each had to retire early because of injuries.
Tennis stunts a la Monfils
Monfils' tennis style is known to be "theatrical'' in many aspects. He is the one to dive and do all kinds of stunts just to save a shot. However, a more conservative player was seen Tuesday and he said that this was because he was given the opportunity to do so.
But because of this erratic style of playing, Monfils was able to reach the Monte Carlo Masters finals, win the Citi Open in Washington and has reached the semifinal matches at the Rogers Cup held in Toronto in July. He is now headed to his first Grand Slam semifinal match in eight years.
His style has made him vulnerable to injuries and he dismissed the notions that he is doing these things to entertain the crowd. He stressed that he seriously wants to win.
The Djokovic vs. Monfils semifinal match will air on ESPN 2, while live streaming will be available at WatchESPN or at the US Open official site.
