Valentine's Event: Hollywood Couple DeVon Franklin, Meagan Good Talk 'Kingdom Love'
Hollywood film executive DeVon Franklin and actress wife Meagan Good said their decision to remain celibate during their 10-month dating period prior to their marriage was not easy, but the Christian couple also said neither one was willing to get in the way of God's purpose in their lives.
Franklin and Good were guests of Pastor Touré Roberts at One Church International in Los Angeles Wednesday evening, the night before Valentine's Day, to discuss their relationship in terms of a "Kingdom Love," one based on wanting to honor God first.
"During the moments I felt weak," said Good in her discussion about sexual temptation while dating Franklin. "I loved him enough not to put him in that situation. I loved him and I loved God enough to not put someone as a man of God that says a certain something that what he is saying could be potentially not true to what he means. It was so much bigger than the moment or the temptation that I was feeling. It was more about he needs to be what God told him to be and I need to not be the person that messes that up. I couldn't live with myself."

Good said that before their romance began she would run across Franklin at various film industry functions and on the set of a movie in which he was the executive producer. She was in a relationship at the time of the movie's filming, but when the relationship was over she began praying about "what the Lord wanted me to do in terms of my life and how to get myself together."
"I had a lot of emotional baggage, and damage, and things that I went through," said Good. "So, I was praying about that and then I started praying about my husband and God told me flat out that DeVon was my husband."
She said she then asked God what she should do and He answered, "Nothing. Just wait. Get yourself together." She told the audience and those watching on the church's live webcast that it was nine months after believing that Franklin would be her husband before he asked her out on a date.
Franklin, on the other hand, said he "did not have the prophetic on my side."
He said that while evaluating Good in an audition for a film he was working on, or in seeing her other work as an actress over the years, and also in meetings with her he kept their relationship strictly professional and "didn't really think much more about it."
Once they began working on the set of the same film, Franklin said, "We started reconnecting as friends and talking about church, and talking about God and Christianity, and all these things. We started noticing that as friends we had a spiritual connection."
"I didn't think anything of it," said Franklin about their early discussions. "You know us men. We don't always get it."
It wasn't until the premier of their film, "Jumping the Broom," at the after-party that they started talking and he noticed that "two conversations at once" were going on inside him. Two weeks after his discovery that they were connecting on a different level they went on their first date.
"By the third date it was clear what God was doing," Franklin said. "I said, 'So, really Lord? So, this is what you had planned all the way along."
He said it wasn't until months later that Good told him that she knew he was her husband.
"It's fascinating because He gave her the revelation. All she had to do was position herself to Him and get her life together. He made it happen. She didn't call me. She didn't text me. She didn't try to get in the office to talk about something. She didn't try to make it happen. She just let God do it," Franklin explained.
