Vanessa Paradis: Tough Break Up, 'It Wasn't Easy' Depp Says of Split
Johnny Depp finally broke the silence on his break up from Vanessa Paradis this week.
The pair was together for14 years and share two children together, but the actors went their separate ways last summer.
"The last couple years have been a bit bumpy," Depp revealed to Rolling Stone magazine. "At times, certainly unpleasant, but that's the nature of breakups, I guess, especially when there are kiddies involved."
Depp and Paradis share 14-year-old Lily Rose and 11-year-old Jack.
"Relationships are very difficult. Especially in the racket that I'm in because you're constantly away or they're away and so it hard," Depp candidly continued. "It wasn't easy on her. It wasn't easy on me. It wasn't easy on the kids."
Furthermore, Depp said that his regard for his ex will always be high because of the children.
"So, yeah. The trajectory of that relationship- you play it out until it goes, one thing leads to another. So for whatever reason that ceases, it doesn't stop the fact that you care for that person, and they're the mother of your kids, and you'll always know each other, and you're always gonna be in each other's lives because of those kids. You might as well make the best of it."
Depp went on to note that his break up from the French actress and model was different from his splits from high profile women such as Kate Moss and Winona Ryder. The actor was infamous for trashing hotel rooms and drinking during the early '90's.
"In terms of the breakup [from Paradis] I definitely wasn't going to rely on the drink to ease things or cushion the blow or cushion the situation," said the actor, according to Rolling Stone.
Turning to alcohol "could have been fatal," said Depp.
"I felt it was my duty to be real clear throughout that," he added. "I had something pretty serious to focus on, really, which was making sure that my kids were gonna be cool."
The 50-year-old actor is currently promoting his latest film, "The Lone Ranger," in which he portrays Tonto. The film is set to hit theaters on July 3.
