'Veep' Season 6 Premiere Date, Spoilers: Julia Louis-Dreyfus Reveals April Return

After a long wait, a premiere date for HBO's "Veep" season 6 has finally been announced. Star Julia Louis-Dreyfus took to her Twitter account last week to reveal the exciting news: Selina Meyer will be back in April.

An April premiere is not actually very surprising, especially considering all of the show's previous seasons debuted in the same month. However, this will mark the first time in three years that the HBO comedy will not air alongside "Game of Thrones," one of the network's most popular television series. It is widely known that "Game of Thrones" will arrive at a much later date than usual due to adjustments made to its filming schedule.

Fans, however, can look forward to two comedy shows premiering in April, as "Silicon Valley" season 4 is set to air a week after "Veep," pairing the two acclaimed hits on Sunday nights.

Louis-Dreyfus shared a video of herself on her Twitter page revealing that "Veep" will be back on April 16. The popular comedy is currently shooting its sixth season, with showrunner David Mandel sharing behind-the-scene glimpses on his own Twitter handle. One photo sees a "mystery guest actress" with Louis-Dreyfus' Selina, Tony Hale's Gary Walsh, Sarah Sutherland's Catherine Meyer, and Clea DuVall's Marjorie Palmiotti.

Season 5 left off with Selina out of the White House after losing the presidential elections to Laura Montez (Andrea Savage). Jobless, Selina will have a difficult time dealing with the change in pace. She will do everything she can to make herself relevant in the political scene once again but not without her trusted aide, Gary. Fans know that Gary has always been supportive of Selina regardless of her attitude and decisions, and season 6 will be no different.

"It's post-presidency. With that comes a lot of breaking down and anxiety [for Selina & Co.]... Gary is probably losing his mind," Hale told TVLine in September.

"Veep" season 6 will premiere on April 16 at 10:30 p.m. EST on HBO.
