Verizon Plans to Launch Two 4G Tablets Before Christmas
Verizon plans to launch two new 4G tablets before the end of 2011, according to a recent statement made by the carrier.
The two devices it plans to release are the 10-inch and 8-inch Motorola Droid Xyboard.
“As we’ve previously mentioned, we’re planning to bring several new LTE devices to market including two tablets,” said Verizon in a statement. “We haven’t made any official announcements in the U.S. but we look forward to sharing more details soon.”

The carrier seems to be expanding its 4G LTE catalog at a rapid pace with the addition of these two new Xyboard devices that will now carry the name Droid.
It also gives Motorola another chance to make its mark on the tablet market.
The Xyboard is thinner than the Xoom, Motorola’s previous tablet models.
The Xyboard also feature sharper corners on their bodies unlike other tablets that have rounded corners.
Both of them will run on Honeycomb, the latest Android software created for tablets, and should receive the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade once it is released.
For specifications, the Xyboards will include a dual-core 1.2GHz processor with 1 GB of RAM each.
They will also have a 5-megapixel-rear camera and a 1.3-megapixel front facer.
They will both have Gorilla Glass for display durability.
The 10-inch model is expected to come with a stylus and is specifically geared towards business customers while the 8-inch version is made more for casual users and it features a 2.1 virtual surround sound system that includes a subwoofer.
The tablet market is one that is dominated by Apple with its iPad.
Apple sold 11.1 million iPads in the last quarter.
A recent study by NPD found that only 1.2 million non-iPad tablets were sold entire year.
To no surprise, the second most popular tablet with consumers happens to be the HP TouchPad.
