Victoria Jackson's Facebook Comments Insensitive to Newtown Elementary Shooting?
Victoria Jackson has again ruffled feathers with her comments on gun control and the deaths of 26 people in Connecticut. Jackson, a former actress on "Saturday Night Live," is now an outspoken activist who is not afraid to say exactly what is on her mind.
"My friend Jim Riley posted: 'Wasn't the Connecticut killer just doing what abortionists do every day? It's a wonder we don't have more 20 year old 'dads' doing what women and doctors have been an accomplice to for years in America. When you forget the TEN COMMANDMENTS, people, THIS is what you get,'" Jackson posted.
"Obama dramatically wiped a tear as he said, 'The majority of those who died today were children – beautiful little kids… They had their entire lives ahead of them – birthdays, graduations, weddings, kids of their own… YEAH OBAMA. SAME AS THE MILLION BABIES YOU HAD ABORTED THIS YEAR. ARE YOU CRYING FOR THEM?" Jackson posted after the president's national address.
Her comments were not well-received and have set off a media frenzy as well as a public debate about what should and should not be said in the aftermath of public mourning. However, Jackson has now posted a photo to her Facebook wall that has reignited the flames of debate sensitivity.
There is a photo of Timothy McVeigh, the Oklahoma City bomber, in handcuffs with large text reading, "Timothy McVeigh Didn't Use a Gun: Killed 168 innocent people; Killed 19 children under age 6; Injured over 680 innocent people. You can still buy fertilizer; you can still buy racing fuel; you can still rent box trucks. Murderers will murder with or without a gun. Guns are not the problem, share if you agree."
364 people have "liked" the post, but many have commented that it is uncalled for and does not make much sense given the brutality of Friday's shooting.
"So your logic is to ban fertilizer and box trucks before we limit assault weapons?" Tom Chantler asked.
"All this freedom to carry a gun... With thinking like that you could argue for missile launchers! To make a deadly weapon so easily attainable is ridiculous. Everyone would feel safer if they walked around with grenade launchers; do you people think we should have them as well?" questioned Shiba Gaming.
Jackson has not publicly responded to the comments about her response to the shootings, or to Obama's address, though it's likely she stands by her words and posts, since they have not been deleted.
