However, the way things turned out, the Vikings were the ones who made the playoffs, and the Lions had a torrid time, and ended up being one of the top picks in the draft.

They will both know how important it is to get a season off to a good start, and with a fresh clean slate starting today the Lions will be hoping to set the standard high today as a platform for the rest of the season.

However, the Vikings look strong and they will provide a very strong challenge for the Lions in the first game. Most predict that the Vikings will be contending at the top again – Adrian Peterson is healthier than every and will take some stopping.

The team is strengthened from last season with the addition of wide receiver Greg Jennings. That means Christian Ponder will have a top player to target, and if they can optimize their pass offense, Peterson will likely continue to devastate on the rush, making them one of the most dangerous teams in the NFL.

The Lions will be hoping to cause problems of their own for the Vikings, and will look to Calvin Johnson to be an effective target. The big rivalry between these two teams should ensure this is a fantastic game to get the season up and running for both teams.

Minnesota Vikings vs Detroit Lions starts at 1 p.m. ET from Ford Field, Detroit, Mich. and can be watched on TV on Fox, or alternatively can be watched online through live stream by clicking here.
