Virtual Stations of the Cross, online services: 4 ways to celebrate Good Friday, Easter from home
Online Easter services
For Easter Sunday, as with past Sundays, many churches are offering online videos of services, some livestreamed while others have been prerecorded.
Many megachurches are streaming multiple services, including Elevation Church in North Carolina, West Angeles Church of God in Christ, and Lakewood Church of Houston, Texas.
“Have your hope revived through stirring worship music and an inspiring message,” noted the Lakewood's Facebook event page for the services.
Presbyterian Church (USA), the largest Presbyterian denomination in the United States, recorded their Easter Sunday service in advance and scheduled it for release on Thursday.
Filmed at PCUSA's headquarters in Louisville, Kentucky, the service features a sermon by the Rev. J. Herbert Nelson II, stated clerk of the denomination’s General Assembly.
“Can’t make it to church this morning like we’d like to. Can’t see our friends in this moment. But what else can we do? What has God given us to do right where we are?” he asks, according to the Presbyterian News Service.
“Maybe God, in God’s own mercy and love — just as God was willing to give God’s only begotten Son for us for the redemption of the world and the forgiveness of our sins — could that same God right now be slowing us down, that we might give our full attention to the One who has never taken holy hands and eyes off of us?”
