Who is Vivek Ramaswamy: 5 things to know about this 2024 presidential candidate
1. Ramaswamy is a Hindu who attended a Catholic school
Ramaswamy discussed his faith in remarks before the Philanthropy Roundtable at its 2020 annual meeting. He described himself as “a Hindu, a child of immigrants, an American citizen, [and] a native of Ohio.”
A biography on his campaign website reveals that Ramaswamy was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, and was the valedictorian of his high school, St. Xavier. A 2015 newsletter from St. Xavier, a high school formed to “assist young men in their formation as leaders and Men for Others through rigorous college preparation in the Jesuit tradition,” identifies Ramaswamy as a 2003 graduate of the school.
If elected, Ramaswamy would become the first Hindu to serve as president of the United States. Ramaswamy is not the first Hindu to seek the office, however. Former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, D-Hawaii, who unsuccessfully sought the Democratic nomination for president in 2020, has also identified as Hindu.
